How do you clean an unlined cast iron skillet that has developed a layer of sticky black grease?
I applied too much oil during seasoning, and now the entire cooking surface of my cast iron pan feels tacky and thick. How do you reset the surface without ruining the metal?

Scrub the pan vigorously with hot water and a tablespoon of coarse kosher salt using a stiff brush. If the stickiness remains, bake the pan upside down in your oven at 200°C for one hour; the intense heat will polymerize or melt away the excess un-bonded oil layer.
