I can't focus on work. I sit at my desk and just stare at the screen.

I work from home as a freelance graphic designer. I used to be really productive but lately I can't focus at all. I'll sit down, open my laptop, and just... stare. I'll check my phone, get a snack, check social media, and 3 hours later I've done nothing. I have deadlines but I just can't make myself start. I feel guilty all day and then work late at night when everyone is asleep. This is destroying my life.

What you're describing isn't laziness—it's executive dysfunction, and it's incredibly common for people working from home. Your brain has lost the external structure that an office provides. Here's how to fix it:

1. The 5-minute rule: Tell yourself you'll work for just 5 minutes. That's it. Usually once you start, you'll keep going. The hardest part is starting.

2. Phone in another room. Not on silent—in another room. Out of sight, out of mind. This single change will double your productivity.

3. Use time blocking: Work in 25-minute Pomodoro sessions with 5-minute breaks. Use the Forest app or a kitchen timer. Knowing there's a break coming makes starting easier.

4. Create a "fake commute": Before work, walk around the block or do 10 pushups. This signals to your brain that work is starting.

5. Work at a coffee shop 2-3 days a week. The ambient noise and social pressure work wonders for focus.

You're not broken. Your environment is. Fix the environment first.
