Why am I gaining weight even though I eat healthy?

I've been eating clean for 2 months — lots of veggies, lean protein, no processed food. But I've gained 5 pounds. I don't understand. I thought eating healthy automatically meant losing weight.

Eating healthy doesn't automatically mean losing weight — you can absolutely gain weight on "clean" food if you're eating too much of it. Here's what's probably happening: 1) Portion sizes. A "healthy" avocado is 320 calories. A "healthy" handful of nuts is 400 calories. Healthy food is still calorie-dense food. 2) You might be eating more than you think. Track your calories for a week using MyFitnessPal — most people underestimate by 300-500 calories. 3) If you started exercising, you might be building muscle while losing fat. Muscle weighs more than fat. Get a measuring tape, not just a scale. 4) Hidden calories: olive oil, salad dressings, "healthy" granola bars. 5) Sleep and stress affect weight too — poor sleep increases cortisol, which causes water retention and fat storage, especially around the belly. Don't panic. Track everything honestly for 2 weeks and you'll find the answer. It's almost always calories in vs calories out, even with healthy food.
