Why do standard plane windows have a tiny microscopic hole at the bottom?

I noticed that every commercial airplane window has a small hole drilled into the inner plastic pane. Why does it not cause a cabin depressurization leak?

It is called a bleed hole. It balances the extreme air pressure differential between the pressurized passenger cabin and the thin outside atmosphere, while preventing moisture fogging.
