Why do we experience a sudden falling sensation or body jerk right as we drift to sleep?
Sometimes, right as my mind blanks out to sleep, my entire body experiences a violent, involuntary muscle twitch that snaps me awake. Is this a medical condition?

It is called a hypnic jerk. It is a completely benign physiological reaction that happens when your motor nervous system misinterprets rapid muscle relaxation signals as an actual physical fall.
